    It aims to help delegates: 
    • Understand key legislation and safe lifting practices
    • Gain confidence using general-purpose lifting accessories and manual lifting appliances 
    • Follow and create basic lift plans for routine operations
    • Apply theory in practical exercises to reinforce safe working

    Theory

    This section covers the theory, legislation, and safe practices for lifting operations, including:
    • Overview of relevant legislation: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, LOLER 1998, PUWER, 1998
    • Common lifting terminology and safe lifting principles
    • Assessing load weight, centre of gravity, and potential hazards
    • Overview of general purpose lifting accessories and safe methods of use, including: Lifting eyes, synthetic slings (roundslings & flat woven), chain slings, wire rope slings (single & multi-leg) and shackles
    • Safe use of manual lifting appliances including chain block and lever hoists
    • Conducting pre-use inspections of lifting equipment and accessories 
    • Understanding and following a 9-Point liftingprocedure

    This entry-level course aims to help delegates understand safe lifting practices using manual lifting equipment and accessories such as slings and shackles.     Who Should Attend 

    Q4. Who is this course suitable for? 
    This course is suitable for those starting out in lifting operations or preparing to take on responsibilities involving basic lifting tasks. It may be appropriate for site operatives, workshop and manufacturing staff, maintenance workers, engineering operatives and individuals who need to assist with simple lifting under supervision. It is not designed for complex lift planning or supervisory-level responsibilities.

    Q5. Are there any entry requirements?
    Yes. Delegates must be at least 18 years old, physically fit, and able to carry out practical lifting activities. They should have no medical conditions that could affect participation and a good understanding of written and spoken English.

    Q6. What training is recommended for complex or non-lifting operations? 
    This course supports delegates carrying out basic, non-complex lifting tasks only. Where lifting operations are complex, non-routine or involve greater responsibility such as lift planning or signalling, further accredited training is recommended, including the CPCS Appointed Persons: Lifting Operations A61. For further NPORS or CSCS lifting training, please contact our team on 0345 605 0006 for further course information.

    How the Training Works

    Delegates should wear comfortable workwear and PPE including, safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard-hat (chin strap preferred), gloves, helmet, long sleeves and trousers (shorts are not permitted). PPE can be purchased if needed. Weather appropriate clothing may be required for outdoor sessions. Please also bring a packed lunch.
