We look forward to welcoming you to your Online Adult Mental Health First Aid Course. The course is interactive and is delivered through a blend of slides, video clips, activities, discussion, case studies and live, instructor-led learning which you will explore as a group to embed learning.
This interactive course is made up of both required individual learning activities and a series of four live, instructor-led sessions using a blend of slides, video clips, activities, discussion and case studies. The instructor is MHFA England qualified to deliver your training. Please note, each section of individual, or self-learning must be completed prior to that day’s live learning, including the section to be completed before day one of live training.
Individual learning utilises a combination of videos, workbook activities and reading from your manual. However, please note Activities 1 – 4 must be completed before the first live session.
This can be done at your own pace in advance of each live session and is a requirement to successfully complete the course. Your instructor will be emailing you a link to the MHFA England online learning hub where you will be able to access your self-learning materials to be used in conjunction with your course manual and workbook.
You will shortly receive a link to the MHFA England Online Learning Hub, “Enabley” where you will be able to access self-learning materials to be used in conjunction with your course manual and workbook. You will need both your course manual and workbook before your first day.
If you have not received either the link to Enabley or manual & workbook within 5 days prior to the course start date, please contact HSS Training on 0345 766 7799 as these are required materials for the course.
The live sessions will be conducted via Zoom which works best with Chrome. Please ensure your laptop is enabled prior to the course.

Once you have signed up and logged in you will see that you have been assigned to an Online Mental Health First Aid Course.
Individual Learning
The materials on the Online Learning Hub will direct you through all the individual learning activities. Please make sure to complete all the activities you need to in advance of each live session. Once a live session has taken place, the next set of activities you need to complete will be made available.
The activities include reading through pages of your MHFA Course Manual, watching videos and answering some reflective questions. Ensure you allow enough time to complete these activities between sessions which should take no more than 2 hours.
Live sessions
For the best experience it is recommended that you use a laptop or computer rather than a phone or tablet to access the live session via Zoom. Live sessions should be logged into 10-15 minutes before the start time as this will allow for registration and any pre course questions.
Please ensure you have completed all the individual learning activities in advance of each live session as we will be building on the knowledge you have gained each session. If you haven’t completed the activities it may be difficult to participate in the skills practice in the session and all sessions must be completed by the end of day four to successfully complete the course.
Getting Started
It’s recommended that you use Chrome to access the Online Learning Hub & Zoom. Please test your tech before joining a session. Make sure that your webcam, microphone and speakers are working so that you can fully participate in the live sessions. Please make sure that you face the camera, if you are using more than one screen.
Think about your surroundings and try to be in a comfortable and quiet space. Try to minimise and background noise and reduce possible distractions by turning off your emails and mobile phone.
Further Support
It is important to recognise that this course covers material which you may find emotionally triggering. Your self-care is important and your safety throughout is our priority. Please consider identifying someone who could potentially support you during or after the course if you need it. Take some time to identify this person before the course starts.
