It also covers the necessary compliance requirements and industry best practices for managing water systems effectively and safely.
- The legislation: HSE ACOP L8 and HSG274 part 2
- The role and duties of the Responsible Person and Duty Holder
- The compliance requirements, including the Written Scheme (Control Scheme)
- Problem-solving issues within the water systems
- Emergency procedures if required
- Cleaning & disinfection of systems
- Control measures of hot & cold-water systems
- Temperature monitoring / Flushing little-used outlets
- TMV maintenance & commissioning
- Calorifier inspection and drain purging
- Showers and spray tap cleaning, disinfection and descaling
This course is designed for delegates responsible for carrying out routine tasks related to the control of legionella in hot and cold water systems.
Typical duties may include:
- Servicing Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs)
- Inspecting cold water storage tanks
- Conducting basic microbiological sampling
- Inspecting and cleaning calorifiers
- Purging expansion vessels

All delegates must present a valid and up-to-date Legionella Awareness Certificate (or equivalent) as a prerequisite for attending this course.

The assessment will be a multiple-choice test at the end of the session. Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a City and Guilds Accredited Programme Certificate that will need renewing once 2 years have passed.
