    This course is aimed at experienced MEWP operators who wish to further develop their operating skills and achieve the IPAF PAL+ qualification. 

    Course Entry Requirements 

    • Valid IPAF PAL Card: You must hold, or be working towards an IPAF PAL Card for the exact machine category you want to take the advanced PAL+ course for. (E.g., you must hold a standard 1b licence to take the 1b PAL+). 
    • Proven Operator Experience: You must have existing, hands-on experience operating MEWPs safely.
    • Proficiency in English: The course and assessments are delivered in English. You must have a good understanding of written and spoken English.

    • A short theory session
    • Practical training and extensive practical exercises 
    • Category specific training in:
                     o Static Boom (1b+)
                     o Mobile Vertical (3a+)
                     o Mobile Boom (3b+)

    Assessment 

    • A written assessment 
    • A practical assessment (the practical assessments for the 3a+ and 3b+ categories may be completed using an approved Virtual Reality (VR) MEWP simulator).

    Experienced IPAF operators working in higher risk or challenging environments who already hold a valid PAL card in the relevant category (e.g 3A, 3B, 1A).

    Q8. Are there any entry requirements?
    Delegates must be at least 16 years old, hold a valid PAL card in the category they wish to train in, have practical MEWP experience and have good written and spoken English. Proof of experience should be emailed to training@hss.com at the time of booking.

    How the Training Works 

    Q9. Is lunch provided? 
    Lunch is not provided so delegates are advised to bring their own lunch or make use of nearby facilities. Training centres are equipped with a kettle, microwave and fridge if needed.

    • Valid photo ID
    • Your current IPAF PAL card (or ePAL)
    • Suitable PPE which includes hard hat, hi-vis vest/jacket, safety boots, and gloves.

    Practical training takes place outdoors, so please wear suitable workwear and clothing appropriate for the weather and practical elements of this course. Required PPE includes safety footwear, high-visibility clothing and suitable gloves. A hard hat may also be required. Full details will be provided after booking.

    Most of our training centres have free on-site parking, although availability may be limited. Parking information will be provided once your booking is confirmed, or you can check parking availability for your chosen venue by visiting our Training Centres page.

    PAL+ includes a short theory test and a practical assessment. These are designed to review understanding of working in higher-risk environments.

    On successful completion, you'll receive an updated digital ePAL Card showing the relevant PAL+ category, along with an official IPAF Certificate of Training. The qualification is valid for five years.
