This course identifies the dangers and hazards which can arise from work in proximity to underground services and the requirements for planning and implementing safe systems of work in order to reduce the risk.
The course covers the minimum training and assessment required for those working to safely detect utility services using recognised and approved detection methods, interpret utility drawings and line search documents in accordance with HSE HSG47 guidance Avoiding Danger from Underground Services.
The standard has been derived from the following National Occupational Standards:

Managers and Supervisors in construction, utilities, telecommunications and petrochemical industries who are required to locate underground apparatus during planned excavations and plan and issue permits to excavate.
Delegates successfully completing the course will be issued with a EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register) Card, which is valid for 3 years. All cards display the card holder’s unique EUSR number, the reverse displays all registrations and their expiry dates.
