This course will provide delegates with the comprehensive set of practical skills required to become a confident first aider for children and infants.

Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid

  • The role of the paediatric first aider
  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Management and practice skills of a casualty that:
    • Is unconscious
    • Is not breathing normally
    • Is choking
    • Is in shock
    • Has a bleeding wound

 

Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

  • Management and dealing with:
    • Chronic medical conditions and sudden illness
    • Effects of extreme heat and cold
    • Suspected fracture and dislocation
    • Head, neck or spinal injury
    • Conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
    • Electric shock
    • Poisoning
    • Bites and stings
    • Records and reporting

 

This course is primarily aimed at delegates working in child-care settings, but it will be useful for anyone with responsibility for caring for infants and children.

Delegates successfully completing this course will receive a City & Guilds Award in Paediatric First Aid. Re-qualification mandatory every three years.
