    Information for Delegates

During the course, you will be asked to complete a Delegate Information Form which will be submitted to CITB with your final results for certification and includes required information as follows:

    Section A

Personal details including CITB Registration number, name, home address, date of birth, National Insurance number, telephone and email address.

    Section B

To be completed if the Employer intends to claim CITB Grant. If so the delegate must ensure that the 7 digit levy number and the Employers name is completed. If this section is not completed it will be assumed that a claim for the CITB Grant is not required.

We will not release any personal details or learner data to third parties except to relevant statutory bodies – these are required for certification purposes only.

    Information for Employers

HSS Training is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) with CITB, allowing our customers to claim grants for completing training on our registered courses.  The CITB levy and grants scheme has been introduced to ensure the UK construction industry has the skilled workforce that it needs; providing grants for employers to train their workers. This helps to maintain health & safety standards on construction sites, keeping the right skills available for the industry to grow. In turn this will allow projects to be completed on time and within budget, in a safe and sustainable manner.

    How much is the Grant?

The grant rates are split into three tiers, determined by the duration and content of the course.

    •Tier 1 = £30

    •Tier 2 = £70

    •Tier 3 = £120

    Course Name Grant TierValue
IPAF (Dual) Mobile Vertical (3a) + (3b) Mobile Boom - Operator Tier 2£70
IPAF Harness Use and Inspection Tier 1£30
PASMA Mobile Access Towers for Users Tier 2£70
Ladder and Stepladder User - Ladder Association Tier 1£30
Ladder and Stepladder Inspection - Ladder Association Tier 1£30
Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Tier 3£120

    Which courses are covered?

As a CITB accredited ATO, HSS Training has 20+ courses registered under the CITB Short Course Duration Grant.  Short duration courses last from 3 hours to 29 days, focusing on the core construction skills needed across the industry.

The full list of approved courses is available on CITB’s Construction Training Directory.

    • Assured Products - courses delivered to an agreed industry standard

    • Recognised Products - an approved standard by a relevant awarding body that is widely accepted by the industry i.e. IPAF, PASMA, Ladder Association

    • CITB - relating to the Site Safety Plus courses

    How do I claim?

    Q. What do I need to do as the employer?
    A. Simply book your employee onto their required course (our full open schedule is available on the HSS Training website) and provide us with the following details: Delegate name, DOB, Address, NI Number and the Employer CITB Levy Number.

    Q. How do I make a claim?
    A. We will do everything for you. Because HSS Training is an ATO with CITB, following your employees successful completion of their course we will update the  construction Training Register and you will automatically receive the payment.

    Q. How will I receive the payment?
    A. Grants can only be paid back via bank transfer, so ensure that CITB hold your current bank details - you can do this through their secure online Bacs Direct Credit Authorisation Form.

    Who can claim?

Any Employer can claim who has registered with CITB and meets their general grants scheme eligibility requirements. Short Duration grants are available to all directly employed Pay As You Earn (PAYE) staff and sub-contractors.

Note – grants are not paid to individual employees.

    Eligibility Requirements

Employers are able to claim grants if they have sent a Levy Return to CITB by 30th November each year (where applicable).

Please refer to CITB’s website for more information on how Levy Returns are calculated for a company.

    Important Information

Microsoft Teams must be installed beforehand to ensure you can participate successfully.

A User Guide can be downloaded here.

The remote course must be delivered to delegates who are located separately, e.g. home or work and have an internet connection through an individual laptop or computer. Delegates that work for one organisation can attend the same course, provided the course is accessed by individual laptops or computers and they are sat separately.

Please ensure you have the following in place prior to participation:

o Access to a suitable room with minimal distractions (e.g., no excessive noise, animals, adequate lighting) for the duration of the training.

o Computer or Laptop (NO tablets or phones – this is due to issues when completing exams and the trainers not being able to see/monitor delegates) with the below requirements:

    • Webcam: built-in or USB plug-in (Delegates must remain visible in their webcam throughout the course)
    • Speaker and Microphone: built-in, USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
    • Internet Connection – preferably direct connection via ethernet cable
    • Sending/receiving file capability/space to store files
    • Recommended screen size of no less than 10”

o Notepad and pen to make notes throughout the course

o Photographic ID (all) and a parental consent form (if under the age of 18) - see full details below.

    Photographic ID

A delegate who is attending a Site Safety Plus course must provide photographic ID to the trainer at the start of the course to be admitted. Below is a list of acceptable photographic ID that CITB will accept to confirm identity.

    • Passport
    • Photo Card Driving Licence
    • Non-UK Driving Licence
    • Work ID Card
    • EU Country ID Card
    • CITB Scheme Card (Including CSCS Card)
    • Student ID Card
    • Citizen Card
    • Proof of Age Card
    • Young Scots Card
    • British Armed Forces Card/Veterans Card

If a delegate does not hold any of the above ID documents, they will need to provide a completed waiver form to the first day of the training course.

    Under 18’s

The minimum age of attendance for this course is 16 years old, however delegates who are under the age of 18 must provide a completed Parental Consent Form on the first day of the training course to be granted access to attend.

    Attendance

Full attendance of the course is mandatory. Should your internet connection fail during the course for a prolonged period of time, or repeatedly, you may not be able to re-join, unless it can be re-established within 5 minutes, this is so general learning is not disturbed for other participants.

    Prerequisites

Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a supervisor.

As per CITB Guidelines “Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level”.

Any problems with literacy or language comprehension should be declared at least 24 hours prior to the course. This need not preclude attendance to the course; reasonable adjustments are available provided we are made aware of the delegates’ needs.

    Certification

On successful completion of the course, delegates are issued with a certificate accredited by CITB valid for five years.

Please note, CITB no longer offer physical certificates and as such the digital certification will be emailed to the booker of the course within 28 working days of the course completion. However, HSS issue a temporary certificate in-lieu, valid for 1 month until the CITB issue the digital certificate.

    Now Available

You can now book your Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) CSCS Operatives Touchscreen Test through HSS Training.

The Operatives test ensures workers have a minimum level of health, safety, and environmental awareness before going on site. To apply for a CSCS Labourers Green card, delegates will need to successfully complete both the Operatives HS&E test and the Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness course, holding both valid certificates. CSCS cards provide evidence that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do on site, and contractors or clients in the UK require workers to hold a card before they are granted access to a site.

    CITB Short Course Duration Grant

The grant rates are split into three tiers, determined by the duration and content of the course.
