The course aims to provide advanced training on how to set up a recording system for equipment and how to undertake periodic inspections on various equipment throughout the items life. It will also look at demonstrating strengths and weaknesses of materials by using destruction tests.

- Trace-ability for lifting equipment
- Completion of inspection records
- Recording findings and inspection of equipment
- Monitoring items for continual degradation and assessment of when to withdraw the item from service
- Processes for quarantining equipment and the investigation of the effects of contaminants and the details needed to return to service
Practical
- Production of inspection reports and what they require
- Ratings and standards for lifting equipment
- Maintenance of lifting accessories
- Conducting formal examinations on lifting accessories under LOLER (shackles, wire rope slings, eyebolts, hooks, beam clamps, chain slings, slings)
