This industry leading course will provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to work safely in a low risk confined space environment.
- Legislation, regulations and guidance
- Confined space definition and classification
- Risk assessment and workplace safety
- Control measures - method statement and permit to work
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe access
- Atmosphere testing
- Gas detection and ventilation
- Emergency planning
- Personal hygiene and first aid requirements
- Practical training
Those who work in low risk confined spaces:
A low risk confined space exists when there is a shallow entry/ exit with adequate natural or mechanical ventilation; where access is simple and unobstructed and there is no likely risk of flooding (for example meter pits, valve chambers, booster pumping stations and PRV chambers).
Low risk confined spaces would be associated with lone working, requiring the application of appropriate procedures.
Delegates must be 18 years old to attend this course.
Please be aware that the safe working load (SWL) of equipment used during the practical session of this course is 136KG.
If a delegate who wishes to attend is above than this weight, please contact us on 0345 766 7799 to check if additional provisions can be made for your chosen course.
Delegates successfully completing the course will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification.

Investment has been made to develop a multi-use confined space practical training facility.
The facility is monitored by Infra-Red CCTV, allowing delegates to see activity within the internal confined spaces. Functionally can be changed according to customer requirements to replicate working environments (flooding, gas, etc.).
Confined Space Low Risk courses are delivered within City & Guilds approved HSS Training Centres at Derby, Middlewich and Staples Corner (London).
This can be organised at your premises as a dedicated course to include escape sets, however, as there is not an accredited practical facility on site, you will receive a Low Risk Confined Space Awareness Certificate only.
