Course Details

Product number: IPAF_3a_3b_ADV|1167

Our industry leading course will ensure delegates are able to demonstrate their ability to operate powered access equipment safely and effectively in a range of difficult and challenging scenarios.

This advanced IPAF Operator course with practical training sessions and assessment enables operators who hold existing PAL qualification(s) to demonstrate their ability to operate their specified card categories at an advanced level in order to receive the IPAF PAL+ Operator Licence.

Delegates who successfully complete this additional, practical training and testing on their specified machine category will receive the added “+” qualification on their PAL Card.

This attracts a CITB Short Course Duration Grant at Tier 2, with a value of £70.  Please see the Grants and Funding tab for further information.

IPAF ePAL

IPAF have digitised PAL Cards with the new ePAL app, available to both new and existing operators. This replaces the need for paper and plastic documents and licenses with operators’ qualifications and experience easily recorded, stored and shared.

Operators can download the app for free to Apple iOS and Android devices and use it to view and access their digital PAL Cards, logbooks and IPAF safety guides.

HSS Training will be offering the following new IPAF Licence application options:

  • IPAF Digital PAL Card Licence Application (ePAL) - this will be the new default licence application and the cost is included in the price of the course
  • IPAF Physical PAL Card Licence Application (Printed PAL Card) – this will include ePAL with a printed PAL Card and Certificate
    • If required add the item “ Printed PAL Card and Certificate “ to your basket - additional cost £7.50

On successful completion of both the theory and practical sessions, a certificate in lieu will be sent by email.

Theory

  • Compact theory session
  • Individual interviews
  • Theory test

Advanced Practical

  • Practical training
  • Practical assessment

At the end of the course the operator will:

  • Be aware of the importance of attitude and behaviour to working at height.
  • Be aware of the importance of checking a risk assessment against the actual site.
  • Be aware of the implications of siting the machine in differing positions.
  • Drive the MEWP safely and manoeuvre the machine as required, to correctly position and carry out the required tasks in a range of difficult and challenging scenarios.

The course is an optional one day advanced, challenging and extensive qualification aimed at trained operators who work in higher risk or challenging environments such as steelwork, confined overhead spaces or work on challenging terrain.

PAL+ training is open to operators who hold an existing PAL Card qualification in the relevant category.

Pre-requisites

Delegates must hold a valid IPAF approved MEWP Operator licence proving they have been successfully trained to operate the categories for which they wish to obtain PAL+.

We also accept the CPCS Blue card if within date.

A list of approved qualifications may be obtained from IPAF’s Training Operations Coordinator.

To ensure delegates get the most out of the course, sufficient experience in operating equipment is required.

Delegates successfully completing the theory test, practical test and interview will have the relevant categories added to their Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card valid for 5 years. For example, if you hold a PAL card with categories 1a, 1b, 3a and 3b and successfully complete PAL+ in categories 3a and 3b, you will be issued a new card as below.
