Description

Chapter 4 of the licensed work with Asbestos insulation, Asbestos coatings and Asbestos insulation board (HSG247) also known as the contractor's guide (16) specifies the training required for supervisors and those managing the removal of or working with Asbestos. This course aims to provide the training needs for Supervisory license holders as specified in that document. The module is set at proficiency level which provides the student with the practical knowledge and skills to be able to act as a supervisory license holder.

Pre-Qualification:

No pre-Qualification required. But pre-course study is recommended.

Duration:

Course 3 days plus one day practical assessment and exam.

• Asbestos Regulations, Approved codes of practice
• Removal of Asbestos
• Preparation, Enclosures, Removal procedures
• Four stage clearance & testing of enclosures
• PPE, RPE & Decontamination Procedures

Educational Objectives:

The student should be able to describe the health effects of Asbestos, have a clear understanding of the legislation relating to Asbestos, all the elements required for Asbestos removal projects, and the use and limitation of all forms of PPE, and RPE and how decontamination procedures must be operated.

Assessment:

Practical work assessment
Candidates must demonstrate their ability to carry out an initial enclosure inspection and identify deficiencies.
Carry out a final enclosure inspection as if it was part of a four stage clearance procedure.
Carry out an inspection on a decontamination unit.
Demonstrate their ability to understand a plan of work including the relevant supporting documentation, and demonstrate their understanding of dust suppression and all safety issues including requirements of PPE/RPE.
Dust Suppression

Examination:

A 45 multi-choice question exam paper (1hr 15mins) will be undertaken on the final day of the course. This exam will be independently invigilated by the BOHS and is subject to a separate BOHS exam fee.

Certification:

BOHS P406 Proficiency Certificate for Supervision and Management of the Safe Removal and Disposal of Asbestos.
