BOHS Proficiency modules delivered across the UK and Ireland with the aim to train and accredit the asbestos industry to the highest standards. Ideal for asbestos workers and professionals. |
P401 - Identification of Asbestos in Bulk SamplesThis module provides theoretical and practical knowledge of the techniques of asbestos sample identification using polarised light microscopy. The two-day course, which concludes with a BOHS invigilated exam will give candidates a good knowledge of types and forms of asbestos fibres, the theory of polarised light and the practice of using a polarised light microscope. They will be able to describe approved methods for analysis of bulk fibre samples and understand the exposure and quality controls required for this activity. P402 - Building Surveying and Bulk Sampling for AsbestosProvides full practical understanding of the surveying of buildings for asbestos, and any bulk sampling that may be required. The proficiency level module provides the student with the practical knowledge and skills to carry out the stated work, and the two day course concludes with a BOHS invigilated exam. To gain the Proficiency Certificate, candidates will need to provide evidence of field proficiency, normally the submission of two survey reports which include sampling (type 2 or 3), submitted within six months of the exam. P403 - Asbestos Fibre CountingTA proficiency level module, P403 provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy. Candidates will learn the approved methods for fibre counting, an understanding of their limitations and the requirements for quality control. P404 - Air Sampling and Clearance Testing of AsbestosThis module provides theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of air sampling and clearance testing of asbestos. The module is at a proficiency level which aims to provide the candidate with the practical knowledge and skills to be able to carry out the stated work. P405 - Management of Asbestos in BuildingsA proficiency level module which will give students the practical knowledge and skill to manage asbestos in buildings and give the knowledge base required to audit asbestos removal projects. The candidate will have a clear understanding of the legislation, be able to identify and record asbestos in buildings and be aware of the methods for preventing further damage to the ACM's. They will also be thoroughly familiar with good working practices for asbestos removal and with the role of the analyst, air monitoring techniques and the four stage clearance. The candidate will also have a good understanding of the pressures and demands on the various parties involved in a removal project. P406 - Supervision and Management of the Safe Removal and Disposal of AsbestosChapter 4 of the Licensed work with Asbestos insulation, Asbestos coatings and Asbestos insulation board (HSG247) also known as the contractor's guide (16) specifies the training required for supervisors and those managing the removal of or working with Asbestos. This course aims to provide the training needs for Supervisory licence holders as specified in that document. The module is set at proficiency level which provides the student with the practical knowledge and skills to be able to act as a supervisory licence holder. S301 - Asbestos and Other FibresA proficiency level module which will give students the practical knowledge and skill to manage asbestos in buildings and give the knowledge base required to audit asbestos removal projects. The candidate will have a clear understanding of the legislation, be able to identify and record asbestos in buildings and be aware of the methods for preventing further damage to the ACM'S.
